Anubias barteri varnana is a small, attractive plant that thrives in all conditions. It originates from Cameroon and will reach 5-10 cm height. The rhizome will be 10-15 cm or more. It grows slowly, and the leaves survive for several years, giving slow-growing algae the chance to become established.

Planting Methods: Anubias plants can grow in aquarium gravel, aquarium substrate, attached to rocks, driftwood, or decorations. While aquarium gravel may be adequate, anubias plants seem to do much better when planted in nutrient rich substrate or when attached to porous rocks or driftwood.

The flower looks like a creamy white spadix, similar to a calla lily. Like the leaves, the flowers will last a long time, often several months. Like all Anubias species, Anubias barteri var. nana is an extremely hardy plant which makes it popular for aquarium use as well as in paludariums.

The Anubias Nana doesn’t require much special care, as it is a pretty hardy plant that will thrive even in the poorest conditions. Plant it in a shady area in the tank, to avoid algae development on the leaves. These slow growers need constant fertilizing and CO2 supplements to help it stay healthy and in shape.
